House fire in Ordu kills 5 members of a family

2 January 2010 / TODAY’S ZAMAN WITH WIRES, İSTANBUL
Five people died yesterday in a fire that engulfed a house in Ordu’s Ünye district.
The fire, thought to have been caused by an electrical short-circuit, started in the Kaymak family’s wooden house early yesterday. İsmail Kaynak (75), his daughter-in-law Türkan (43) and his grandchildren Leyla (11), Adem (4) and Nazlı (10) died as the house was engulfed by the fire. Kaymak’s other two grandchildren, İsmail (22) and Ayşe (15), were rescued, and the father of the children, Mehmet Kaymak, was not at home when the fire erupted, the Anatolia news agency reported. The dead bodies of the victims were retrieved after the fire was put out by Ünye Municipality fire brigade teams. Ünye Deputy District Governor Selman Yurdaer told reporters that an investigation into the incident had been launched and the family would be provided with the necessary support to move on from this tragedy.
