Sales of solar power units have increased in Turkey over the past few months as people seek ways to save money under the burden of rising electricity prices. Most research and development (R&D) firms are also following developments abroad, particularly in European countries, expecting to implement similar systems in Turkey.
Serdar Tabakoğlu, the general manager of SR Enerji, a Turkish solar power unit producer, said on Friday in Adana that the use of solar power panels in Turkey has grown significantly in the past few years. He explained that a solar panel system can generate electrical energy for some 25 years and that customers can choose the particular panel that best suits their needs from a range of options with varying production capacities.
Tabakoğlu said households can also benefit from solar units, not only production facilities and large business centers, whose electricity demand is higher. For instance, an entire block could benefit from the electricity produced by panels on roofs without further need for municipal electricity. He added that solar panels can also store unused energy.
The company manager noted that that the system costs some 8,000 euros to install for the average household, which normally pays between TL 100 and TL 300 monthly for electricity, while commercial premises could expect to pay upwards of 65,000 euros for installation.
