Speaking to the Anatolia news agency, Yazıcı said work related to combating fuel smuggling has been carried out under the supervision of a minister since 2006. Speaking about the activities of the Fuel Smuggling Prevention Commission, over which he presides, he said the commission is currently preparing a comprehensive study on fuel consumption and production figures in Turkey, the final version of which will be released within five to six months.
Even though a large amount of fuel was seized over the past year, the minister said they are aware that it is impossible to prevent fuel smuggling completely, but that they are acting decisively to minimize the problem.
According to Yazıcı, the Undersecretariat of Customs, which operates under his supervision, will run more efficiently this year thanks to the introduction of digitalization in a number of customs operations starting in April.
