Why has Fenerbahçe club parted ways with defender Önder?

The Fenerbahçe club has decided to part ways with 28-year-old Belgium-born Turkey central defender Önder Turacı, who has been told in clear and unequivocal terms to “go look for a new club.”
Önder’s agent, Doğan Ercan, said over the weekend that three clubs are interested in the player. “Maybe [Fenerbahçe Chairman] Aziz Yıldırım in a fit of rage might have told Önder to ‘go look for a new club’,” Ercan said. “Since then we have had offers from clubs in Russia, Germany and England. But these clubs do not want to pay for the buyout clause,” he also noted.

“They [Fenerbahçe] told Önder to go without giving him his buyout clause or anything officially in writing. We asked for this, but no reply has been forthcoming. Önder is still a Fenerbahçe player with a valid one-and-a-half year contract. If you the tell him to go, then you must give him his payout clause and pay what you owe him,” Ercan further asserted.

“Onder still wants to play for Fener. The fans still love him. But the fact of the matter is that he cannot stay where he has been declared persona non grata,” he added.

Tell us why

Yes, Önder still wants to play for Fener, and the fans still love him. So why has Yıldırım told this player to go look for a new club?

As is known, Önder attracted banner headlines earlier this month for the wrong reasons. Excluded from the Fener squad against Eskişehirspor, Önder badly cut his right wrist on the night of Dec. 5 and was rushed by his family members to the Ataşehir Polyclinic and later to the Kadıköy Acıbadem Hospital where he immediately underwent a two-hour operation.

Several scenarios have been manufactured about this accident or “no accident.”

The first was that Önder was trying to help his mother move a cabinet in the sitting room, and an accident occurred resulting in the player cutting his right wrist.

The second was that Önder got into an altercation with his fiancée and punched a glass side table in anger, badly injury the big vein in his wrist.

The third was that he slipped in the bathroom and his wrist struck the windowpane.

And the fourth was outright attempted suicide.

We don’t know what happened for sure. Naturally Yıldırım, as the Fenerbahçe boss, knows better. And Önder’s accident, which happened the week after another Fener player, Kazım Kazım, survived a near-fatal road crash, perhaps should give us insight into why the Fener boss has decided to act this way.

“They say Önder got angry with his fiancé. No such thing happened,” Ercan said in defense of his player. “Onder has no girlfriend, let alone a fiancée. The accident happened in the bathroom, that’s it.”

Cabinet, glass side table, window pane and attempted suicide. Which one is true?
