Man who raped, murdered 9-year-old girl detained

A man who allegedly raped and killed a 9-year-old girl living in his neighborhood in Mersin was detained on Thursday.
Ali S., 25, a resident of the Cumhuriyet neighborhood in Mezitli, Mersin province, allegedly raped Hatice Torcu on Wednesday after taking her to his house when his wife was not home and thereafter killed her by slitting her throat. He later called his cousin to the house who, upon seeing the body of the girl, called the police, which came and detained Ali S. Her body was taken to the Mersin State Hospital for an autopsy. On Thursday, Torcu’s body was returned to her relatives for burial. Officials said an investigation opened into the incident continues.
