More than 40 KCK suspects detained in Turkey

More than 40 people have been detained as a result of simultaneous operations in several provinces of Turkey against the Kurdish Communities Union (KCK), an organization that allegedly functions as the urban arm of the terrorist Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).

Diyarbakır Chief Prosecutor’s Office started operations early yesterday in 11 provinces which are Ankara, İstanbul, İzmir, Diyarbakır, Siirt, Hakkari, Tunceli, Batman, Şanlıurfa, Şırnak and Van, and 43 people were detained.

Officials said the detainees are mostly KCK administrators. Among the detainees are Siirt Mayor Selim Sadak, Şırnak'ın Cizre town Mayor Aydın Budak, Diyarbakır Kayapınar Mayor Zülküf Karatekin, Sur Mayor Abdullah Demirbaş, Çınar Mayor Ahmet Cengiz, Viranşehir Mayor Leyla Güven, Kızıltepe Mayor Ferhan Türk, former Dicle Mayor Abdullah Akengin, Diyarbakır Deputy Mayor Ali Şimşek, now defunct Democratic Society Party’s Provincial Chairman Fırat Anlı, Human Rights Association (İHD) Vice President and Diyarbakır Branch Head Muharrem Erbey.
