There are many ministers and deputies who reside in the Çukurambar district. Some people are surprised that in the middle of the night, two cars were caught scoping out the scene. Isn’t the real surprise here that in a democratic country the deputy prime minister is being targeted, that the top of the state is being observed and blacklisted? According to allegations, Maj. İ.G. and Col. E.Y.B. both work at the Mobilization Inspection Command, the General Staff’s provincial arm.
Ergenekon defendant Fikret Emek had served in the same division. A fake press card has been unearthed at the home of one of the suspects. Weren’t press cards also made for assassin Alparslan Arslan, who committed the attack on the Council of State? Acting on a tip-off 20 days old, the Ankara police captured these people, with one of the suspects attempting to swallow the piece of the paper with the target address on it.
Ten vehicles had been rented using fake IDs, and almost all of them had been caught on video. The allegations are serious. The suspects are currently free. This event which has shaken Ankara so deeply will certainly have light shed upon it through the investigation of security forces and the judiciary. What’s being spoken about here is the assassination of the prime minister’s right-hand man, who at one point sat in the state’s number-two spot as parliament speaker. Who is a message being sent to?
Turkey is passing through a critical period in which prosecutors are investigating coup and attack plans and cage operations as part of court cases. These are days in which, due to assassination plans in which the Naval Forces Command is also implicated, dozens of officers on active duty are being tried, days in which plans of bombings and assassinations are popping up all over. And two such active duty officers have been caught red-handed. It’s also important to not forget Ali Balkız and Kazım Genç, who were targets of Ergenekon assassination plans, or the S1 team lists and the Atabey and Sauna gangs. As Turkey strengthens its democracy, it has become very clear that there are those who want to drag the country into chaos with assassinations. And the state institutions, the General Staff, the opposition, politicians, apprehension and intelligence are all silent. This silence isn’t a good sign. Isn’t enough for the political memory to recall the chains of assassinations from 1977-80 that killed the Gün Sazaks, the Nihat Erims and the Abdi İpekçis?
