Soccer: Ankaragücü hire Lemerre as new coach

Turkish first division side Ankaragücü have signed an official contract with French coach Roger Lemerre on Tuesday.

Retired Turkish football player Ümit Ozat, former player of Fenerbahçe and Germany's Cologne, also joined Ankaragücü as assistant coach.

Lemerre signed a six-month contract with a one-year extension option with the club.

Ankaragücü finished the first part of the 2009-2010 season in the 15th place in 18-team league.

68-year-old French coach managed several clubs in Europe and Africa but he starred as French natial team coach after winning Euro 2000 in Netherlands/Belgium.

He later moved to Tunisia to coach the national team and later to Morocco. He last managed the Morocco national team until July 2009.
