Turkish ministers leave for Brussels

21 December 2009 / THE ANATOLIA NEWS AGENCY, ANKARA
Three Turkish ministers left for Brussels on Sunday to attend an intergovernmental conference which will be held to open environment chapter in Turkey's EU accession talks.

State Minister & Chief Negotiator for EU talks Egemen Bağış, Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu and Environment & Forestry Minister Veysel Eroğlu departed for Brussels to participate in the conference.

European Council's Committee of Permanent Representatives earlier gave a green light to Turkey on opening of the policy chapter on environment on December 21.

After environment chapter is opened, Turkey would have started negotiations on 12 of 33 chapters.

The European Union suspended in 2006 the opening of eight chapters and the closing of several others due to Turkey's refusal to allow Greek Cypriot vessels into Turkish ports.
