Interior Minister Beşir Atalay will disclose today the outcome of a governmental review of the democratic initiative agenda following tensions triggered by the death of two people on Tuesday during a protest against the closure of a pro-Kurdish party.
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan had a lengthy meeting on Wednesday with three deputy prime ministers -- Bülent Arınç, Cemil Çiçek and Ali Babacan -- Justice Minister Sadullah Ergin, Defense Minister Vecdi Gönül, Interior Minister Atalay and Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu. All of those ministers and deputy prime ministers are members of the National Security Council (MGK). Erdoğan and the MGK-member ministers “discussed recent security and public order incidents which took place in recent days,” a brief statement released following the meeting said, noting that Atalay would inform the public of the outcome of the meeting today. Earlier on Wednesday, Erdoğan also had talks with Emre Taner, the chief of the National Intelligence Organization (MİT).
