“The friendship between our countries should be expanded in the field of economy as well,” Spiric told a meeting hosted by the Turkish Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges (TOBB). He suggested that Bosnia and Herzegovina has much to offer foreign businessmen after a recent series of economic reforms, although he added that there were still political difficulties stemming from a “lack of dialogue.” He also called for Turkish support to overcome this lack of dialogue.
TOBB Deputy Chairman Faik Yavuz complained that the global financial crisis has affected Turkey’s trade with Bosnia and Herzegovina as well, noting that the volume of trade stood at $225 million in the first nine months of this year, representing a sharp decline compared to the same period of the previous year, when the trade volume was $552 million. “We should work harder and turn the crisis into an opportunity,” he added. Spiric is in Ankara for talks with Turkish leaders as Bosnia and Herzegovina is plagued by tensions over governance and power-sharing disputes. He had talks with President Abdullah Gül and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
