A group of women in Antalya, including foreigners living in the area, has opened a second-hand store to collect money for the care of stray dogs in the district of Alanya.
White goods, kitchen appliances, books and food are sold in the store, opened in an apartment in the town of Obaköy in Alanya. One volunteer working at the store, Handan Kanak, told the Anatolia news agency they sell products donated to them. Stating that they used to sell the products they collected at an open bazaar, Kanak said they lost their spot in the bazaar so they decided to open the store in an apartment.Stating that all items in the store, including some new products, are sold for fair prices, Kanak said the residents of the neighborhood have shown interest in their store, adding that the store is open on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. She also noted that there are many stray dogs in need of care and that the municipality’s animal shelter is unable to meet their needs, which is why they decided to launch their operation. Stating that it is mostly Germans living in the district who donate to their organization, Kanak invited everyone living in Alanya to support their organization by both donating goods and shopping in their store.
