About 500 Turkish pilgrims who were stranded at Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah airport for three days returned to Turkey early on Monday, landing at the Ankara Esenboğa Airport at 3:50 a.m. The group was scheduled to return to Turkey early on Friday, but could not. Many complained about having to wait at the airport for three days and blamed Turkey’s Directorate of Religious Affairs for the inconvenience.
Speaking about the delay at the Jeddah airport, a pilgrim said: “We were stranded. We slept on the floor. When we asked why we were waiting, airport officials told us our plane needed maintenance. We all felt miserable.” The pilgrims also said they protested their situation at the airport in Jeddah, displaying Turkish flags. The situation was reportedly rectified soon after being publicized by the Turkish media.
