A cold front moving in from the Mediterranean will mean a drop in temperatures of between 4 and 5 degrees Celsius in western Turkey over the weekend, including the Aegean, in addition to precipitation and strong winds.The forecast for Turkey’s five major urban centers are as follows: İstanbul should expect heavy rain for the next three days, with strong northeastern winds of up to 40 kilometers per hour; there will be stormy weather for three days where the Bosporus meets the Black Sea. Ankara will also see showers, with a steep drop in temperatures ahead of the ski season, expected to begin on Sunday. In İzmir, scattered showers are expected throughout the weekend, with temperatures falling to 13 degrees Celsius by Sunday. Bursa will see heavy showers, while days of showers will see the addition of strong winds by Sunday in Adana. Snowfall is expected in Uludağ and at higher elevations in Thrace.
Meteorologists warn that rainfall will be particularly strong in Muğla, Antalya, Burdur and Isparta, urging residents of these provinces to take extra precautions amidst the adverse weather conditions. State Meteorology Bureau officials released a warning saying: “Southern winds are expected to be of medium strength with precipitation, meaning that from time to time strong rainstorms may occur. Caution should be taken against the possibility of mudslides and flooding.” In Central Anatolia, rains are expected to grow stronger over the weekend, with strong winds added to the mix in the Sivas-Niğde corridor. Snowfall mixed with rain is expected to begin in Eskişehir on Sunday. In the Southeast, rainfall will grow stronger over the weekend, while in Eastern Anatolia, from Malatya to Van, rainfall is expected to turn into snowfall in northern regions.
