Iranian attempts to burn himself in front of embassy

10 December 2009 / THE ANATOLIA NEWS AGENCY, ANKARA
An Iranian citizen attempted to burn himself to death in front of the Iranian Embassy in Ankara on Thursday.

Iranian citizen Mohammad Errahim came to the Iranian Embassy in the morning and wanted to talk to the ambassador. He left the embassy when the embassy officials told him that he could talk to the ambassador in the afternoon.

Errahim came to the embassy again after 2 hours with a gas canister and said he would burn himself to death if he was not allowed to speak to the ambassador.

He poured some gas on himself but the police intervened before he lit the lighter.

Errahim was detained and taken to police station.

Officials said Errahim had came to the embassy 15 days ago and wanted money for treatment of his child's illness.
