One of the suspects is currently jailed at Silivri Prison. The special guards were allocated to Col. Dursun Çiçek, whose name appears on a document allegedly prepared by the military called the Action Plan to Fight Reactionaryism and which revealed plans to discredit the ruling AK Party and faith-based Gülen movement in the eyes of the Turkish public, and for retired Col. Levent Göktaş, a key figure in the Ergenekon trial, who is currently incarcerated in Silivri.
The security detail decision came a day before Çiçek went to court to testify to the Ergenekon prosecutors in early November, enabling the controversial colonel to go to the courthouse under the protection of guards provided by the state. The General Staff wanted personal protection for the Ergenekon suspects because of news reports on the two suspects who, they believe, may become the targets of an attack.
