Chinese, Indian vehicle manufactures break price floor

9 December 2009 / TODAY'S ZAMAN WITH WIRES, İSTANBUL
As automobile manufacturers race to lower prices in order to spur demand for their vehicles in the aftermath of the economic crisis, Chinese and Indian manufacturers have lowered the average price in the sector by supplying and selling the cheapest cars available in the Turkish market.

The cheapest options among small passenger vehicles with basic options are from Chinese and Indian manufacturers like Chery, Geely and India’s Tata, all under TL 20,000. The cheapest vehicle in the line up of small passenger vehicles is Chery’s Kimo model, at a base price of TL 16,990, lower than the sector’s price range of TL 20,000 to TL 35,000.

Although these smaller vehicles are preferred because of their low tax rates and efficient fuel consumption, drivers looking to purchase a more luxurious vehicle must be willing to pay up to TL 35,000 to satisfy their taste. For comparison, Fiat’s Palio and Albea, popular vehicles in the Turkish market, are TL 18,810 and TL 19,420, respectively, with Dacia Logan coming close to the now-cheapest Chery at TL 17,100.
