Speaking to an Anatolia news agency reporter, assistant to the president of the TİSVA board of trustees and Justice and Development Party (AK Party) Eskişehir deputy Nedim Öztürk noted that the project began in 2003 and stated: “Today this microcredit project is under way in 33 cities in 53 branches.
There were those who said that microcredit would not be successful in our country, but today we have given 29,000 needy women the opportunity to start their own businesses. Our repayment rates are nearly 100 percent, with a total of TL 38 million given in credit.”
Noting that there are two branches of the organization in Eskişehir, the province he represents in Parliament, Öztürk noted that both branches had disbursed loans to almost 1,500 people without any form of collateral, based solely on trust. Loans from the Eskişehir branches totaled nearly TL 1.2 million, with a nearly 100 percent repayment rate. He revealed that governors, mayors, and businessmen have all contributed to fund the project, with the majority of funding coming from TİSVA.
