Advertisements to be used during the publicity campaign for İstanbul 2010: European Capital of Culture project were introduced yesterday in a press conference in İstanbul’s Çırağan Palace.
The advertisements released outside Turkey highlight İstanbul as the world’s most inspiring city while the local adverts focus on the rediscovery of the city by its residents.

The foreign campaigns will take place in 20 countries, 12 of which are European, and use an iconic photograph of İstanbul showing a silhouette of the city’s historical peninsula in a photograph taken by famous photographer Rainer Stratman and a publicity film. The photograph, formed by merging around 30 photographs together is on display at distinctive spots in European cities, including the Gare du Nord train station in Paris and Piazza San Marco in Venice. The heads of the creative team for the campaigns, Hakkı Mısırlıoğlu and Paul McMillen, presented the films and the iconic photograph of İstanbul at the meeting.

“İstanbul has been the most inspiring city in the world throughout history. You can see different reflections of this inspiration in the work, studies and lives of artists, intellectuals, politicians, thinkers and leaders across the world,” Şekib Avdagiç, the İstanbul European Capital of Culture 2010 Agency executive board chairman said in his opening remarks.

The local İstanbul 2010 campaigns, focusing on the rediscovery of İstanbul by its residents and on the energy of the city, include publicity films, announcements on printed media and online campaigns. “We invite everyone, not only İstanbullites, to share the energy of İstanbul and to discover the city once more,” Avdagiç said.
