79 dead, 462 wounded across Turkey in holiday traffic accidents

With the four-day Eid al-Adha winding down to a close on Sunday, the unavoidable holiday traffic took its toll, with 79 people reported dead and another 462 injured in road accidents.
According to a report from the Anatolia news agency, on the day of Arafah, the day preceding the Eid when many began their vacation travel, 23 people died and 90 were injured in road accidents. In one of these accidents, in Mardin’s Midyat district, a minibus collided into a light pole, leaving eight dead and 14 injured.

On the first day of Eid al-Adha another 12 people died, while 118 were injured. On the second day, 14 people died and 57 were injured. On the third day of Eid, eight died and 70 were injured; in Bursa’s Nilüfer district a vehicle swerved, striking a crowd of people before crashing into billboards on the side of the road. Four people waiting for a bus at the bus stop were among the dead.

On the final day of Eid al-Adha, when many hit the roads to return to the cities where they work and live, 22 people were killed and 127 were injured in traffic accidents around the country.
