New York’s Brooklyn Borough president, Marty Markowitz, distributed about 350 kilograms of meat on the last day of Eid al-Adha (Feast of the Sacrifice) on Monday in cooperation with the Turkish Cultural Center in Brooklyn.
The meat was distributed to soup kitchens from outside the Brooklyn Borough Hall, providing food for people in need. Students from the Brooklyn Amity School, founded by Turks living in the United States, volunteered to help give out the meat.Recalling that the mayor distributed 1,000 turkeys on Thanksgiving Day, Turkish Cultural Center Brooklyn head Mehmet Kılıç said the president was happy when they asked him to distribute meat to those in need. “The borough found people in need, and the president promised to support the program every year,” he added. While stating that he had returned from a visit to Turkey shortly before the event and he adored the hospitality in Turkey, Markowitz said sacrificing animals has been a tradition since Abraham and thanked the Turkish Cultural Center for its work.
