Detained PKK suspects linked to bus firebombing

27 November 2009 / TODAY'S ZAMAN WITH WIRES, İSTANBUL
Seven people detained on Thursday in an operation targeting members of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) are suspected of responsibility for a Molotov cocktail attack on an İstanbul city bus that seriously injured a student earlier this month.
The Anatolia news agency reported that the İstanbul Police Department’s anti-terrorism team seized a gun, 25 blank cartridges and several documents in addition to the suspected PKK members. The suspects are accused of being involved in six incidents, including a Nov. 8 Molotov cocktail attack on a bus on the Söğütlüçeşme-Zeytinburnu line which severely burned 17-year-old Serap Eser’s face and arms. Eser was on her way home from a Student Selection Examination (ÖSS) course when the attack took place.
