You might hear people say winter has arrived early, so early, in fact, that it came before fall. Those who make such a statement might be right. This is particularly the case in big cities where people are unable to witness the arrival of the fall season. However, autumn and spring carry different colors and features. The yellow of fall should be mentioned. It is the season of sadness for some and love for others, but all agree that this season bears scents and visions of romance. We went after the colors of this season for those who are unable or too busy to experience this beauty. We headed to different parts of Turkey for this purpose; we took pictures of the colors of the season and witnessed the expressions on people’s faces. We listened to the sound of the wind, and we took a lot of pictures.
Cappadocia: Fall in Cappadocia means loneliness because all the stores are closed, and the harvest finishes during this season. Infinite yellow dominates the fields; the unique colors of fall are integrated with the fairy chimney. Autumn is probably the most suitable season to enjoy the rock formations; there are no balloon tours in the region because all the tourists have gone. However, tours are still possible, either with a guide or by renting your own car. Also, you can experience the sunset while walking along Kızıl Çukur.
Abant: Abant, renowned for its natural beauty, is a popular destination for those who want to get away from the turmoil of the city. The Abant woods are even more beautiful with its magnificent trees draped in yellow during the fall season. Abant, a favorite destination for tourists in love with nature, is relatively empty during autumn. Lake Abant and its surroundings are ideal for those who want to rid themselves of stress and relax. You can take a tour of the forest after dining at one of the many restaurants around the lake. You can also enjoy tea in one of the cafes.
Trakya: Leaves turn yellow and become pale in the fall; nature changes. Trakya, on the other hand, is dressed in yellow in summer. The entire region turns gold when the sunflowers bloom. In fall, the fertile lands of the Trakya region turn green; the sunflowers in the fields get darker. Even the Koru Mountains in Edirne and the Istranca Mountains in Kırklareli are influenced by this transformation. It is hard to witness the romance of the fall season, but it is possible to see a few trees with yellow leaves.
Kaz Mountains: The fall season is far more enjoyable in the Kaz Mountains, the richest region in the world in terms of diversity of flora and fauna. It is a place worth seeing thanks to its spectacular nature, historic ruins, waterfalls and brooks. That part of the Kaz Mountains which was declared a national park is reserved for trekking and off-road driving. You can sample the hormone-free products of the region. The area, known as a great destination for asthma patients, hosts luxurious thermal facilities for those who want to have a relaxing vacation.
Konya: Rumi is the first thing that comes to mind when you hear anything about Konya. You can start a tour of the city by paying a visit to the Mevlana Museum and then visiting the grave of Seljuk Sultan Alaaddin Keykubat. After visiting the city center, you can tour the enchanting village of sille.
Mardin: Mardin, located on the Mesopotamian plain, has amazing stone houses that should be experienced during fall. Autumn is the ideal time to see Mardin. Stroll the narrow streets of the city, and visit the Deyrulzafaran Monastery, the Mardin Bazaar, the Kasımiye Medrese, the Grand Mosque and the Zinciriye Medrese. Fall is the best time to watch the sunset in Kasımiye.
Toros region: The Toros Mountains bid farewell to their guests, who are headed to the seaside with the arrival of fall. The Yörük (local nomadic people), who spend six months in the Toros Mountains, enjoy cool weather in the mountains during the summer and head out of the mountains when fall arrives. They are headed to Mersin, where they spend the winter. The settlers along the coastline stretching from Mersin to Fethiye do the same; those who spent the summer under the coolness of pine trees return to the coast for the warm winds of the sea. You can observe the traces of people migrating to their winter homes on the roads from Toros to the seaside. Fall means returning home and leaving the mountains.
Black Sea region: The Black Sea is the best place to enjoy the colorful leaves of fall. The story of the leaves is told by the brooks of Sinop, Giresun, Rize and Artvin. You must experience the colors that dominate Çamlıhemşin, Ovit, Borçka and Macahel, but you should remember that it is cold during this season. Who knows, maybe someone there may invite you in and offer you a delicious dish of steamed anchovies wrapped with local leaves.
