27 November 2009 / MİLLİYET HASAN CEMAL,
When I saw the headline in yesterday’s Cumhuriyet, I thought of the question posed in the title of this column.
Words from Mustafa Balbay, being cross-examined as a part of the Ergenekon investigation, were carried to the headline of the newspaper: “I am here, but where is Örnek?” It was a correct and legitimate question because journal entries kept by former Naval Forces Commander Örnek Paşa contained details of coup plans. Thus Balbay is correct when he asks, “I am here, but where is Örnek Paşa?” Yes, really, where is he? Where are those commanders? Are they not going to be asked to account for their actions? Or has some line been drawn around them on the state level, and are they thus not to be touched?
