26 November 2009 / THE ANATOLIA NEWS AGENCY, LONDON
Süreyya Ciliv, director-general of Turkey's biggest GSM operator Turkcell, was presented with the "CEO of the Year" in the World Communication Awards 2009 (WCA) in London.

The award ceremony took part at London's Hilton Park Lane Hotel with the participation of high-level executives from telecommunication companies and a number of guests.

Among eleven other executives, Ciliv was awarded as the CEO of the Year for his contributions to development of the sector of communications and technology in Turkey, encouraging Turkcell workers for innovations and successful leadership.

Earlier in November, Turkcell Group declared a net profit of 497 million Turkish liras (TL) in the first nine months of 2009.

Turkcell with its 36,3 million subscribers, is not only the leading operator in Turkey but is also the third biggest GSM operator in Europe in terms of subscriber numbers. Turkcell's shares have been traded on Istanbul Stock Exchange (IMKB) and New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) since July 11, 2000 and it is the first and only Turkish company ever to be listed on NYSE.

Who is Süreyya Ciliv?

Ciliv joined Turkcell as its chief executive in January 2007.

Between 1997 and 2007 Ciliv held various executive positions within Microsoft, and prior to that served as chairman of Novasoft Systems, a company he co-founded. Ciliv started his career as a software development engineer at U.S.-based Metagraphics.

Under Ciliv's leadership Turkcell made significant achievements in communications and technology. Ciliv and his executive team managed to sustain growth against strong economic headwinds and fierce competition.
