Britain ready to give up military rights in Cyprus

Britain has said it could give up its military intervention rights on the divided island of Cyprus to help seal a reunification agreement.
Britain’s minister for Europe, Chris Bryant, made the offer Tuesday. Britain has already offered to give up part of its sovereign territory on the island to assist a possible deal.
Cyprus has been divided into a Greek Cypriot south and a Turkish Cypriot north since 1974, when Turkey, using its rights as a guarantor state, militarily intervened following a coup by supporters of unification with Greece.
Greece, Turkey and Britain are guarantor powers in Cyprus’ independence agreement of 1960 -- giving them the right to intervene militarily of the terms of that agreement are threatened.
