Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Chief of General Staff Gen. İlker Başbuğ held their weekly meeting at the Prime Ministry yesterday.
The meeting lasted for one hour and 35 minutes. Erdoğan and Başbuğ were expected to discuss the latest developments on Turkey’s agenda such as the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) government’s Kurdish initiative, which aims to resolve Turkey’s Kurdish problem. The initiative came to Parliament’s floor last week despite adverse reaction from the opposition parties. Another item which was supposed to be on the agenda of the Erdoğan-Başbuğ meeting was a letter sent by an unnamed military officer to prosecutors last week, which included subversive military plans to destroy the government. The letter came with a CD attached containing numerous confidential military documents which showed that the generals were plotting to damage the AK Party’s image in the eyes of the public.
