"Sudan wants to set up a fair relation between Turkey and African countries"

Sudan's Agriculture & Forestry Minister Abdel Haleem Ismail al-Mutafi said on Thursday that they wanted to set up a fair relation between Turkey and African countries.

Speaking at the 5th International Turkey-Africa Congress, organized by Turkish Asian Center for Strategic Studies (TASAM), in Istanbul, al-Mutafi said that Turkey played an important role in the history of north Africa, adding that the region was influenced by Turkey in cultural and religious aspects.

Noting that relations between Turkey and Africa were developing, al-Mutafi said that responsibility of civil society organizations was important in this issue.

He added that civil society organizations were an important power.

Noting that Africa had changed very much in recent period, al-Mutafi said that Turkey undertook an important role in this process, and extended great support.

Al-Mutafi said that justice and stability should be restored in Africa, adding that African countries had rich natural resources and they wanted to make export and import.

He said that relations between Turkey and African region began in 2005, and he invited more Turkish entrepreneurs in the region.

Meanwhile, TASAM Director Süleyman Şensoy recalled that 2005 was declared "African Year", and important steps were taken to develop cooperation with African countries.

He said that "Turkey-Africa Cooperation Summit" was held in Turkey with participation of 49 countries in 2008, adding that the summit was a historical turning point in Turkey-Africa relations.
