Turkey to offer bid to operate Mecca-Medina high speed train services

19 November 2009 / THE ANATOLIA NEWS AGENCY, ANKARA
Turkey's state-owned railway company is set to offer a bid in a tender to operate Mecca-Medina high speed train, Turkish railway officials said.

The consortium of the Turkish State Railways (TCDD), Siemens and the Saudi company Bin Ladin is one of the four competing consortiums to sign a deal for the project.

The TCDD would operate for a period of twelve years the high speed train on a 450-kilometer railroad from Mecca to Medina, or el-Haramein where non-Muslims are not permitted to enter.

Consortium partner Siemens would provide high speed train sets and set up railway signalization system as the Saudi company would complete superstructure work for the railroad.
