Arda Turan, the young captain of the Galatasaray Lions soccer team, has tested positive for swine flu, the İstanbul club said on Friday.
A statement from the club said: “Our player Arda had a running nose, fever and felt weak. And the tests carried out on him showed he has contracted swine flu. Arda was already being treated. Treatment was intensified after tests came back positive. In light of this, Arda will continue receiving treatment until Monday and will remain away from the team.”The club said Arda had gone to Rome during his two days off and that it is almost certain he contracted the H1N1 virus in Italy.
Arda, 22, is one of the most popular and well-paid players in Turkey. As reported on today’s sports page, the killer swine flu does not discriminate, infecting young and old, rich and poor, male and female, black and white -- and even soccer players.
