Turkish cinema veterans immortalized

19 November 2009 / TODAY’S ZAMAN, İSTANBUL
As part of the ongoing Bursa International Silk Road Film Festival, which runs through Nov. 22, veterans of Turkish cinema are being immortalized in a manner similar to the Hollywood Walk of Fame in Los Angeles, with the names of veteran Turkish film artists engraved in pieces of granite that are in the shape of leaves.
The granite leaves will be displayed after a ceremony that will be held today at 1 p.m. at Bursa Atatürk Congress and Cultural Center with the participation of Bursa Mayor Recep Altepe, Bursa International Silk Road Film Festival Director Ali Çalışır and numerous other contributors of the festival.

The Turkish directors and actors for which leaf prints have been prepared are director, actor and producer Muhsin Ertuğrul (1892-1979); actress Cahide Sonku (1916-1981); actor Ayhan Işık (1929-1979); director, scriptwriter, producer and actor Osman Fahir Seden (1924-1998); director, producer and scriptwriter Atıf Yılmaz (1925-2006); actor Hulusi Kentmen (1911-1993), actress Belgin Doruk (1936-1995); actor Sadri Alışık (1925-1995); actor Vahi Öz (1911-1969); and Turkish classical musician and actor Zeki Müren (1931-1996).

Meanwhile, film screenings as well as discussion sessions with directors and actors of a number of movies, including Antonio Tublen’s “Original,” Elçin Musaoğlu’s “40th Door” and Semir Aslanyürek’s “Seven Courtyards,” continue today, the sixth day of the festival.
