Turkish Professor Hayrettin İvgin, author of 44 books and over 2,000 articles on literature and folklore, has won the Pushkin Prize for literary excellence, awarded by the Institute of Russian Literature of the Russian Academy of Sciences, also known as The Pushkin House.
Ivgin was awarded for his novel “Manas” and his overall contribution to world literature.“I am touched and honored by the prize. I am excited to be the first Turk to receive this award,” İvgin told the Anatolia news agency.
İvgin will go to Moscow to receive the award in early December.
Works by İvgin, who previously served in high-level posts at the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, have been translated into numerous languages, including Chinese, English, Russian, Romanian and French.
