Crowd watches sold-out recital on ‘big screen’

18 November 2009 / TODAY’S ZAMAN WITH WIRES, İSTANBUL
A recital by internationally acclaimed Turkish pianist Fazıl Say as part of the 10th International Antalya Piano Festival attracted a large audience on Sunday, with many people watching the recital on a giant screen outside the venue since the concert hall, Yenimahalle Semt Evi, was full.
Antalya Mayor Mustafa Akaydın and photographer Fikret Otyam also attended the free concert.

Speaking before the performance, Akaydın said, “This project is something I am proud of,” adding that Yenimahalle Semt Evi had never experienced such great excitement. Beginning the concert with a piece from a Beethoven sonata, Say concluded the recital with Gershwin’s “Summertime” and improvisation on Mozart’s “Turkish March.”

The next concert in the festival, titled “4 Piyano 1 Şef” (Four Pianos, One Conductor), featuring Alexander Gindin, Janis Vakarelis, David Lively and Cyprien Katsaris as pianists and Artem Markin as the conductor, will take place on Nov. 19.
