The list includes a diverse group of people. An anonymous person responsible for the examination of computers at the General Staff in connection with Çiçek’s plan sent a letter to Ergenekon prosecutors, the President’s Office, the Ministry of Justice, the prime minister and opposition leaders.
According to the letter, a file containing private information about people to be used as part of the Action Plan to Fight Reactionaryism was discovered on one of the examined computers. The file contained detailed information about the individuals, including their date of birth, place of birth, occupation, how much they loved Turkey and how reliable they were.
Some people from among those that were kept track of from different walks of life were given IDs. The records were allegedly prepared in the General Staff’s department of psychological operations, which is the same place where the action plan was drawn up.
Among those that received an ID are well-known figures such as journalist Levon Panos Dağbağyan, Ergenekon suspect and self-declared head of the so-called Turkish Orthodox Patriarchate Ümit Erenerol, Turkish Orthodox Patriarchate spokesperson Sevgi Erenerol and journalist Uğur Yıldırım.
The records on these four people read: “Their devotion to the nation is complete. They are reliable. They can keep a secret. They get along well with their friends. They are well known in their surroundings. Their ability to endure difficult conditions is sufficient.”
Aside from these individuals, the names of dozens of ordinary citizens were also included in the file.
