Where can we go to have a sense of privacy when we live in a city that spans two continents and never seems to sleep? The Photography Club of İstanbul International Women (PCIIW) has a new exhibition that examines some of the ways people attempt to carve out their own private spaces, finding ways to be alone, yet never lonely, within a city teeming with others also seeking their personal space.Twelve women from around the world offer intimate glimpses of private moments forged in public places. The show, titled “Public Places, Private Spaces,” is brilliantly illustrated through mesmerizing color and black-and-white photographs. Works from Andrea Durchankova, Angelika Kemmler, Annabel Pattullo, Elaine Graham, Jennifer Odlum, Linda Caldwell, Margie Lambert-Şen, Mariette Rijnsdorp, Mojca Androjna, Shona Schneider, Sibylle Giraud and Sophie Greiveldinger are featured in the exhibition. Each photographer brings her own unique style and interpretation of the subject matter to the show. The result is a creative, personal view of how we all relate to the world around us. As with the photography club’s previous exhibits around town, this showing of photographs will have viewers leaving with a different outlook on their own lives and how they too create their own personal sense of space.
