A new bylaw in Turkey that lifts time limitations on broadcasts in languages and dialects other than Turkish entered into force today.
Provisions in the previous version of the bylaw limited radio broadcasts in languages and dialects other than Turkish to 1 hour each day and a total of 4 hours per week for radio broadcasts, and to 45 minutes per day and a total of 4 hours per week for television.
The previous regulation also included translations and subtitles for radio and television programming. The new form of the law eliminates a provision that banned educational programs in the non-Turkish languages and dialects in which the broadcasts are made.
