Thirty-nine short film submissions from around Turkey have been selected as finalists in the competition, organized by İstanbul’s Fatih University. They include 20 fictional, 10 documentary and nine animated shorts.Stage actor Kenan Işık, the head of the jury at the competition, stated that the selection process had been tough because there were many submissions, which he said was a good thing for the development of Turkish cinema. “I am hopeful for the Turkish movie [industry] after seeing the immense interest of young people in such events,” Işık said.
The winners will be announced at a ceremony on Dec. 8 at İstanbul’s Türker İnanoğlu Maslak (TİM) Show Center. In addition to a crystal clapperboard award and a cash prize, the winners of the competition will also win a scholarship to the New York Film Academy.
