Verhoeven before his leap into Tinseltown at İstanbul Modern

Paul Verhoeven, the famed director of many big screen hits including “RoboCop,” “Total Recall” and “Basic Instinct,” will be in İstanbul this week for a program offering a selection of his films at the İstanbul Museum of Modern Art.
The weeklong program, titled “A Dutch Tale,” will get under way Saturday and screen six feature films Verhoeven made between 1971 and 1983, before his grand leap into Hollywood, until it wraps up on Nov. 22.

Verhoeven will be in town Saturday for the opening session of the program, organized in collaboration with the Dutch Consulate General in İstanbul. The director will be in attendance at a screening of his 1973 film, “Turkish Delight,” on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the museum’s movie theater. He will also speak with fans at a panel discussion following the screening.

Other Verhoeven films in the program are “Business is Business” (1971), “A Girl Called Katy Tippel” (1975), “Soldier of Orange” (1977), “Spetters” (1980) and “The Fourth Man” (1983).
