6 November 2009 / YENİ ŞAFAK YASİN DOĞAN,
Results from an ANAR poll on parties people support show the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) with 38 percent, the Republican People’s Party (CHP) with 23 percent and the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) with 16 percent.
These results are almost the same as the results of local elections held in March. Another poll that resembles ANAR’s findings is one by GENAR, which found that the AK Party has 37.5 percent support, the CHP 24.7 percent and the MHP 17.5 percent. Keeping in mind that these polls always have a 1 percent margin of error, we have a rough idea of the political tableau in Turkey these days. So despite all of the various negative factors at hand, the AK Party has managed to maintain the support level it saw in the local elections. This alone is enormous success.
