Hedo, Raptors hang on for win over Pistons

6 November 2009 / TODAY’S ZAMAN WITH WIRES, İSTANBUL
On a night when the Toronto Raptors honored Charles Oakley and Alvin Williams, two of the toughest players ever to wear Raptors uniforms, the 2009-2010 squad showed they have some grit of their own and depth within their bench as they hung on late to take down the Detroit Pistons, 110-99, in an NBA thriller in Toronto.
“Our bench was outstanding,” Coach Jay Triano said. “I thought that they came in, they gave us energy, they ran up and down the floor, they got us stops and deflections. That was some of the best basketball that group has played.”

Turkish superstar Hedo Türkoğlu, acquired from Orlando Magic at the end of last season, banged in 16 points with seven rebounds and six assists for the Raptors. Andrea Bargnani had 22 points and 12 rebounds for his first double-double of the season, and Chris Bosh scored 25 points as Toronto became the first team this season to score more than 100 points against Detroit.

Ben Gordon had a season-high 30 points, and former Raptors player Charlie Villanueva and Will Bynum each scored 16 for the Pistons.

In other NBA games on Wednesday, it was: Orlando 122, Phoenix 100; Miami 93, Washington 89; Denver 122, New Jersey 94; Indiana 101, New York 89; Boston 92, Minnesota 90; LA Lakers 103, Houston 102, OT; New Orleans 114, Dallas 107, OT; Atlanta 113, Sacramento 105; Golden State 113, Memphis 105.
