Speaking at a meeting titled “Rising Broadband” and held on the sidelines of the Convergence to İstanbul 2009 summit organized by SAMENA, a multi-continent telecom consortium that operates in South Asia, the Middle East and North Africa, Doany said the majority of regulations should be amended in accordance with technological developments. Giving mobile phones as AN example, Doany noted that the share of mobile phones in the overall telephone communication traffic is far greater than the share of fixed lines. “For the customer, what is important is the voice. Whether through mobile or fixed phones, it does not matter. The regulations should be amended in line with this regard, which will eventually benefit the market,” he said.
Underlining that Türk Telekom prioritizes technology and infrastructural investments, Doany stated they are also investing in evaluating Turkey’s potential in information technology (IT).
Türk Telekom has acquired four technology companies -- Argela, Innova, Sebit and Sobee -- and is extending support to the companies to ensure they export their goods overseas, he said. Interactive education software “Vitamin,” developed by Türk Telekom, is now being offered in the Middle East and works are under way to make the product available in Europe and Asia, as well, Doany noted.
