Kavaf, Republican People’s Party (CHP) Adana deputy Gaye Erbatur, CHP Mersin deputy Ali Rıza Öztürk and Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Balıkesir deputy Ahmet Duran issued a joint written response to a question on women state administrators. According to data cited by Kavaf, there are 2,282 managers employed by the state and state institutions. Of these, 1,995 are male and only 287 are female. Accordingly, women constitute only 12.5 percent of high-level state administrators.At the highest level of state administration, only two women are employed as deputy undersecretaries, the deputies noted in their statement. Four women work as deputy heads of agencies annexed to state ministries, and four as chiefs of such institutions. While only four women are employed as heads of general directorates, there are 32 women employed as assistant general directors at these institutions. There are a total 112 women heading independent state agencies, and 128 working at the highest levels in such agencies.
Kavaf commented on the figures provided in the statement, saying that women’s representation in high-level state administration was not at the desired level. Within the upcoming year, a project is being planned to research the reasons for the lack of women in such positions.
Kavaf also commented on the number of women working at the state institution she herself heads as the state minister for women’s and family affairs. At the Social Services and Child Protection Agency (SHÇEK) main office, 209 of 505 employees are women. Of the total 8,861 employed at SHÇEK provincial branches, 3,353 are women, including 259 female administrators: two assistant general managers, two agency chiefs, 16 branch managers, five provincial chiefs, 15 assistant provincial chiefs, two district social services chiefs, 123 institution managers and 94 institution assistant managers.
At the Women’s Status General Directorate, there are 54 personnel employed and 12 administrators, nine of whom are women. The Disabled Persons’ Administrative Presidency employs seven women administrators.
