Strong winds hit Turkey’s Aegean, Mediterranean coasts

Docks and boats in Muğla coasts have been damaged by southwestern wind and strong rain.

Turkey’s famous vacation spots, Muğla, İzmir and Aydın provinces, have been hit hard by rain and strong winds this week. As southwestern wind and rain have gripped Muğla’s Bodrum district since Tuesday evening, docks and boats in the district’s coasts have been damaged.
Bodrum’s municipality and port authority warned boat owners and fishermen against taking their boats out of ports. An official from Bodrum’s state meteorology directorate said they were expecting the wind to slow yesterday evening. In Fethiye district, storms toppled a tree, tearing it from its roots, and three fishing boats sank.

Rain and storm also have taken hold of İzmir, where downpours negatively affected residents’ daily lives, felling trees and sending boards flying down the streets and causing traffic congestion. In Aydın’s Kuşadası district, rain caused street flooding, as rainwater burst from storm drains. Around 6,000 tourists arriving in the district on four cruise ships did not leave their ships due to the adverse weather conditions.
