Uludağ Tourism Development Association President Serdar Yazıcı told the Anatolia news agency that the snow level at Uludağ has reached 50 centimeters. The early arrival of the season’s first snow is a positive indicator for the upcoming tourist season, Yazıcı noted, and combined with the completion of repair and maintenance work at the Uludağ facilities, the area is ready for the season and off to a good start.Yazıcı also said the owners of Uludağ facilities are eagerly awaiting the Environment and Forestry Ministry’s Uludağ National Park Conversion Project. “The root of our complaints and problems is a lack of planning. Tourism is such a thing that changes can be made in 10-15 days, but in Uludağ’s hotels, no one has taken any serious action since 1993. Some negative news pieces published about Uludağ adversely affected incoming tourist numbers. We want the new plan to be brought to life immediately,” he said.
‘We await domestic tourists’
Yazıcı said Uludağ’s tourism season usually begins in mid-December but that ideal weather conditions this year had pushed that date up. “Considering the suitability of the snow depth and already sufficient levels of reservations for the beginning of December, we’re planning on opening the season at Eid al-Adha. It’s very important for reservations to reach a sufficient level because income during the holiday period is not enough to meet expenses until the normal season begins. As hoteliers, we await domestic tourists as well.”
The Uludağ Hoteliers Region is made up of two development regions, designated 1 and 2. Region 1 has 19 hotels, whereas there are four in Region 2. The total bed capacity is 5,500.
