When Diyarbakırspor is viewed as synonymous with the PKK...

4 November 2009 / RADIKAL ORAL ÇALIŞLAR,
The fact that a group of football fans in Gaziantep yelled and shouted “PKK out!” at Diyarbakırspor supporters at a match is the natural result of the current tense atmosphere in Turkey.
And of course, if society continues to be (made) more and more polarized, and if the current levels of rough and tough nationalist opposition to a solution on the Kurdish front continue, it can only be expected for this all to be reflected on the football fields of our nation. The situation, in addition to not being very surprising, is quite dangerous. Football matches, after all, offer large arenas of easy-to-shape mass psychology. If the current stance towards Diyarbakırspor continues in Turkey’s more western cities, it might well mean that after a while, Diyarbakırspor fans adopt the same kind of stance, and events will then spiral out of control.
