Turkey wants military officers brought to trial

3 November 2009 / AP WITH TODAY'S ZAMAN, ANKARA
Turkey's prime minister says military leaders must identify officers involved in an alleged conspiracy to discredit his government.

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan says the Turkish military should help prosecutors track down suspects in the armed forces. He made the comments Tuesday to ruling party lawmakers in parliament.

A military officer allegedly provided prosecutors with a document outlining the plot.

Six officers were questioned last week over allegations that army personnel tried to destroy evidence.
