Turkish FM: We should act together against global economic crisis

2 November 2009 / THE ANATOLIA NEWS AGENCY, KUALA LUMPUR
Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu said on Monday that it was important to act together against global economic crisis, and also a new vision was needed.

Speaking at the 12th session of Council of Ministers of Group for Developing 8 (D-8) in Kuala Lumpur, Davutoğlu said that D-8 was founded for development in economy and commerce, and added that Turkey, from the beginning, had been attaching importance to cooperation among D-8 members.

Noting that global finance system had changed, Davutoğlu said that the recent financial crisis was big, and none of the countries could struggle against the crisis alone, thus, it was important to act together.

Davutoğlu said that D-8 was adjusting itself to this changing condition, adding that a new change process was necessary, and a new vision was needed.

Davutoğlu, within that scope, suggested to hold a workshop in Istanbul by the end of the year.

He said that when global change process and international competition were taken into consideration, it was vital to increase economic and commercial cooperation among D-8 countries.

He noted that development of cooperation and exchange of information among business circles were necessary. He added that convenience in visa procedures for businessmen could also contribute to economic and commercial cooperation.

Davutoğlu also proposed that Turkey could also host meetings on transportation, water and mining sectors.
