An artsy commercial will open this year’s International İzmir Short Film Festival. “The Lady Noire Affair,” a six-minute short film for Dior, featuring Oscar-winning French actress Marion Cotillard, will open the festival next week with its Turkish premiere.

Kayhan Kırmızıgül, the chairman of the İzmir Cinema Association, which has been organizing the İzmir Short Film Festival annually for the past nine years, told the Anatolia news agency this week that “The Lady Noire Affair’s” İzmir festival screening, held with special permission, would be the first-ever festival screening of the mini thriller, originally aimed as a commercial.

Directed by Olivier Dahan, who previously directed Cotillard in her Oscar-winning role as Edith Piaf in “La Vie en Rose,” “The Lady Noire Affair” follows Cotillard running away from a mob of gangsters in Paris with her Lady Dior bag in tow.

The 10th İzmir Short Film Festival will run from Nov. 3-8. More than 1,000 short films from 65 countries were submitted to the festival, Kırmızıgül said. Among them, 30 shorts in six categories (national and international fiction, animation and documentary) will be in the running for the festival’s Altın Kedi (Golden Cat) award. Showings will take place at the İzmir Turkish-American Association in Alsancak and at Yaşar University’s Selçuk Yaşar campus in Bornova.
