29 October 2009 / SABAH EMRE AKÖZ,
As you may recall, when the action plan prepared within the ranks of the Turkish military’s General Staff was first exposed (on June 12), there were many newspaper columnists who claimed it was a fake.
Rather than expressing curiosity over who was behind the creation of the document, these columnists spent their time casting doubt on the origins of the document through statements to the public. Yesterday, the Star newspaper asked “Will they apologize?” The question posed by Star is a naive one since it is really only the columnists plagued by ethical worries who ever apologize. And if one or two of them step forward to actually apologize, don’t mistake it as genuine. Their telling the truth is only the result of careful calculations. They will only apologize because it is in their interest and if their job demands it of them.
