28 October 2009 / YENİ ŞAFAK FEHMİ KORU,
Pakistan is in the midst of troubled times these days, with many problems rooted in the tableau that has emerged in the wake of the April 2008 Pakistani elections.
Corruption allegations aimed at President Asif Ali Zardari have their own weakening effect on the nation. And even more important is Pakistan’s seeming inability to deal with the ongoing terrorism situation. Granted, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, upon learning of the Pakistani Parliament’s unified stance, commented, “May it be our turn next.” But truly, there is nothing to be jealous of when it comes to Pakistan’s situation. Too bad the opposition is not stronger in Pakistan; the tableau presented by its parliament is colorful, but really has only one voice.
